Osuna, interior small village with whitewashing and monumental streets, is found in the heart of Andalucía, and it possesses numerous appeals, which turn it in a necessary visit for the tourist who comes to know Seville. Along the history, an enviable historical-artistic patrimony has been kept in Osuna. Its rich past historic, whose roots can be gone back to the 1000 year b. C, can be found in the numerous monuments of different eras and styles which are still conserved.

The great patrimonial wealth of Osuna is due to the works of the Girones, Dukes of Osuna, who, with their innumerable religious foundations, are the responsible of the urban configuration of the city and its monumental group, in which convents and churches are mixed with wonderful lordly houses, all dominated by the promontory where the Colegiata, the University and the remains of the ducal fort are placed.

Programme - Itinerary (4 Hours Approx.)

11- La Colegiata de Santa Maria de la Asuncion.

Amazing monumental complex, whose construction dates from the first third of the XVI century. It is appropriate to underline the magnificent front at the foot of the church, known as "Puerta del Sol" and the architects, who designed, are unknown.

The treasure of "La Colegiata" had to be considerable thanks to the donation that the house of Osuna gave to the church and other institutions. The painting reference constitutes the collection of "Los Riberas"; "La Crucifixion", "Las Lagrimas de San Pedro", "San Jerorimo y el Angel Trompetero" y "El martirio de San Sebastian".

To end this first visit, we could enter in the famous Panteón Ducal of "La Colegiata", also constructed in the middle of the XVII century. It is composed of two subterranean floors; the first one, a copy, on a very reduced scale, of a three naves church with chorus; above, the crypt with the sarcophagus of stone and wood, written with the funerary legends of the burried bodies. The pantheon is used traditionally, even nowadays, for the burial of the dukes.

2- Encarnación Monastery.

It was founded in the year 1547, the Encarnation monastery constitutes one of the most relevant conventual treasures of the province of Seville. It is appropriate to underline from the whole complex the exceptional Sevillian tile works of the XVIII century that we can find in patios, clausters and corridors.

It is also interesting the "Los Niños Jesus" room of the diverse periods (XVII and XIX), with rich complements.

This visit includes a route along the enclousure zone, traditionally reserved for the exclusive use of the nuns; these are the clauster, the chorus and different rooms full of history, art and traditions.

.
3- The University.

Don Juan Téllez Girón, father of the I duke of Osuna, founded the University in memory of the soul of his progenitors and to resist the heretic attacks of the doctors of Oxford and the religious reform of Enrique VIII in England.

There are four falculties in the University: Theology, Law, Medicine and Arts. It has its own chapel and a big central patio where we can appreciate the decoration of plastic works.
