Because Seville has always been situated back to the river, Triana was always a sea-board area; an activity that has been conservated until the middle of the 60's and now it is almost extinted.
Without any connection with the other front side, the only relation was the bridge of the boats that joined in old times Altozano square with Seville, where until 1852 the first bridge of factory of the town, Isabel II bridge, was not constructed.
The myth of Triana is highlighted by the romantic travellers, because they find Triana full of "payo" and gipsy neighbour patios; pottery's workshops, parties, legends and customs, the heat and welcome of its people. The Route:

We will start from the other side of the
river, contemplating a nice view of the area and the river. Then, we will talk
about the mythical origins, symbols and idiosincrasy del historical zone that
we are going to visit. Isabel II bridge, well known as Triana bridge, ends in
the area.
We will know the importance of the bridge in the history of the area and Seville, from the primitive bridge of boats to the present construction of the XIX bridge that follows the typology of Carrousel of Paris. In the bridge, we will not forget the reference of the Carmen chapel, example of the regionalist architecture of the beginning of the century. |

We will discover Altozano square at the end of the bridge. This is without any doubt, the origin of Triana, around the castle that is constructed to defend the primitive bridge of boats at the right side of the square. We will start to perceive the atmosphere of Triana: the flamenco and the bullfight, reflected in sculptures in the square, in ceramic works, in front of some houses or the tapa bars with the peculiar fish aroma and the
tables.
We will continue to the heart of Triana through the long Betis street parallel to the river and there we will see fantastic views of Seville, the river and the bridge. We will know the relation between the river and Triana, and also between the river and the discovery of America and the late India trade. We will refer the destructions of Triana due to the river along the history: the inundations. Near the old Mareantes University, we will enter in the heart of Triana. The last part of our walk will be in a zone where the clay is shaped in pottery's workshops. We will wish to buy a souvenir of these prestigious ceramic works of Triana in these pottery's workshops. In these streets we can feel the life of Triana near to the market and flower
shops. In the Inquisition narrow street, with references to the gloomy Court situated in Triana during centuries that is the negative side of the history of triana, we will finish our walking tour, but still we will stay in Triana.
